Superman! (Well, sorta)

We were talking about composers in the library, like we do.

And we mentioned a certain living composer, who has written some things some of us have played (and/or marked bowings in). We'll call him "Superman," 'cause I don't want to get sued.

Here (approximated for your reading pleasure) is our conversation:

Krista: Is there a Superman card [on the Best Composer Ever wall]?

Sean: Please say there's not a Superman card.

Sara: There is not a Superman card. We could make a not-Superman card. Replace the not-Brahms card.

Sean: Yes! Let's do that.

Fabiola: What is his name again? I am not familiar with this composer...

Sara: Superman? That's 'cause he's not important.

Sean: Except he kind of is, because he's getting played everywhere.

Fabiola: Maybe he sleeps around.

{Laughter and applause.}

In all fairness, Sean tells me there's one movement (from the symphony) that calls for lots of percussion (and violin) and is fun to play and fairly musical.
Okay, fine.

Best Facebook Meme Ever

I stumbled on an awesome note on my friend's FB page. It starts like this:

"Name 5 pieces of classical music that make you want to shout "TOUCHDOWN!!!" or otherwise reach for the metaphorical cigarette. Let's see how many we can get without repeating any. Do the cut and paste thing and add to the first 5 that came to my mind, and tag whomever you'd like when you're done..."

Things like Brandenburg 1, the one with the horn trio.

So comment. What are your "touchdown" pieces?

The Sexiest Composer Ever

So..the sexiest composer ever....A composer could write sexy music but does the composition earn extra points if the composer is sexy as well?
So tell me:
Sexiest composer ever?

Best type-o of the summer...

Fart of the Fugue, The. Bach, J.S.

...this is actually on a card. I kid you not.

Adventures in sleepiness in the chamber music library...completely useless post

Upon reflection, I probably should not be trusted with either 1) a hot stylus 2) scissors 3) an awl (I mean really, it's just an accident waiting to happen, it's a little metal pokey thing!) 4) an exacto knife 5) pieces of large paper etc when in such a state of sleep deprivation. Of course, it's my own fault for being so tired, I'm not blaming the library I'm just saying if the peeps at OSHA ever got a look in here...O baby!

I fixed it!

You may have noticed that the url used to be, um, wrong. It used to be asmflibrary.blogspot.com... I was thinking "Aspen Summer Music Festival," you see. The name of the festival is actually "Aspen Music Festival and School." AMFS. I finally figured out how to fix it. Yay.

My Favorite Piece Ever

I can thank one of my teachers at Temple (woot! Temple!) for this one. If you don't know the second movement of the Schubert Piano Sonata in b-flat major, D. 960, you really should. This is just one of those pieces that never tires you. (Well, Sara may be tired of it after having to listen to it incessantly.) Anyway, it's been a mostly Schubert day in the Library. Furthermore, it's been a quiet day in the library and Sara has been subjected to me all day. MWAHAHAHA!

Speaking of bad ideas, I was given the task of calling the delinquents who still have library items from July 6!! I have been as nice as possible even to the people who responded to the dilemma of having library fines with: "And?" Grrr. Arrrgh.

Anyhoo...

I was late today because I had an entertaining adventure on the bus ride from Basalt. I think I spent nearly three hours on the RFTA bus system. Oh Joy.

Sara entertained a conversation on the discrepencies between Chopin and Schubert. (Schubert is way better.) Also, I managed to use "truncate" and "deplete" in the same sentence while talking to a patron. Mmmm...vocabulary.

All in all, it's been an okay day and Sara has managed to survive over 4 hours of my company. See? I'm not so bad....

Fiendish

The new header probably is a violation of all kinds of copyrights, but I'm going to leave it up for at least a day, 'cause it's HILARIOUS (if I may say so).

Hilary introduced us to "Making Fiends," a delightful Nickelodeon series by the maker of MuffinFilms (among other things). Yay!

Johannes Brahms??

You may have seen these, if you watch the right kind of TV (or Hulu). Americans for the Arts has sponsored a series of PSAs promoting—you know— the arts. This is the only really funny one.
