We were talking about composers in the library, like we do.
And we mentioned a certain living composer, who has written some things some of us have played (and/or marked bowings in). We'll call him "Superman," 'cause I don't want to get sued.
Here (approximated for your reading pleasure) is our conversation:
Krista: Is there a Superman card [on the Best Composer Ever wall]?
Sean: Please say there's not a Superman card.
Sara: There is not a Superman card. We could make a not-Superman card. Replace the not-Brahms card.
Sean: Yes! Let's do that.
Fabiola: What is his name again? I am not familiar with this composer...
Sara: Superman? That's 'cause he's not important.
Sean: Except he kind of is, because he's getting played everywhere.
Fabiola: Maybe he sleeps around.
{Laughter and applause.}
In all fairness, Sean tells me there's one movement (from the symphony) that calls for lots of percussion (and violin) and is fun to play and fairly musical.
Okay, fine.
